CETRELLA

Cetrella dominates the town of Anacapri and most likely takes its name from a lemon-scented herb widespread in the area (zither grass). Another solution: it is said that instead of the current hermitage of Santa Maria there was a temple dedicated to the divinity Cetera. The Cetrella valley is located on Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island, and to reach it there are two alternatives: walk up from the center (about 30 minutes on feet) or follow a path from the top. Inside the valley stands the church of Santa Maria, the hermitage of Cetrella. Hermitage because in the past Franciscan and Dominican monks took refuge here to isolate themselves from the population: they used a steep path (or passitiell) to reach the center of Capri and spent the days between prayers and meditation. A place of solitude, but with a spectacular view. The church, built in the 15th century, is located in a panoramic position on the southern side of the island. Just look out from the terrace wrapped in wisteria to get a postcard of the bay of Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni.
